The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has issued a health alert affecting more than twenty products made with moringa, a plant popularly known as a 'superfood'. The detected contamination is by Salmonella, and the affected products are already being withdrawn from the Spanish market.
Moringa, originating from northern India, has gained popularity in Spain and other countries for its high content of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and plant-based proteins. It is mainly sold in powder form, capsules, tablets, infusions, and even cosmetic oils. Although beneficial properties are attributed to it, experts remind that many of these effects are still under study and it should not replace medical treatments.
The alert originated in Germany, where contamination was detected in several products that were subsequently distributed in Spain. The affected references belong to different manufacturers and marketers, covering various formats such as moringa powder, capsules, and detox preparations. AESAN has asked consumers not to ingest any of these products if they have them at home and to follow the instructions from the purchase establishments or competent authorities for their return.
Among the affected products are references from brands such as Organic Moringa (Zenement), BODTOX 2.0 XL Pack EF (Energy Feelings), Organic Moringa Powder (Samskara), Drenante & Detox (Samskara), and several presentations from Energy Feelings, Eco-Salim, Joylife, Solnatural, Foorganic, Bibonatur, Dreamfoods, Planeta Huerto, The Saffron Company JJ, Frisafran, Drasanvi, El Granero, and El Granero Integral.
