Granada's urban public transport has seen a 3.85% increase in passenger numbers during the first half of 2026, reaching 15,965,456 users.

Granada's collective urban public transport system experienced a 3.85% increase in passenger numbers in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year. This growth, totaling 15,965,456 travelers, consolidates the positive trend of recent years and reflects growing citizen confidence in the urban bus as an efficient, sustainable, and accessible mobility option.
The Councilor for Mobility, Ana Agudo, highlighted that these figures confirm the Granada City Council's commitment to modernizing the fleet and improving the service. "More and more citizens are choosing the bus for their daily commutes because they find a more competitive, reliable, and comfortable service," she stated.
Lines 7, 8, 13, 21, 33, N9, and the night lines Búho 111 and 121 have shown the most favorable evolution, exceeding the average growth of the network. Line 7, in particular, has seen a notable 58.9% increase following its reorganization in the summer of 2025.
The rise in demand has been accompanied by a 2.46% increase in service production, which, according to the councilor, demonstrates efficient resource management. The budget allocated to urban public transport has risen to 24.7 million euros this year, up from 20.43 million in 2023.
Regarding fleet renewal, four new hybrid Mercedes-Benz Citaro C2 buses have been incorporated, and two new 18-meter articulated electric vehicles are expected before the end of 2026. With these additions, the current administration will have renewed 25 buses, quadrupling the number from the previous government.
Furthermore, the implementation of new onboard validators has begun on line 4, which will allow payment by bank card or mobile phone, and will be extended to the entire fleet with 258 new units by the first quarter of 2027. Exterior and interior information panels with real-time arrival times and public interest announcements will also be installed.
The City Council has also improved the accessibility and functionality of various bus stops, including the installation of a new shelter on Periodista Eduardo Molina Fajardo street and the adaptation of the stop at Fray Sánchez Cotán. New public restrooms have been added at line terminals, and operational improvements have been made to lines 8, 13, and 21.
Despite urban transformation works on streets such as Avenida Cervantes, Santiago, and Carretera de Málaga, the service has been maintained normally thanks to the planning of diversions and operational adjustments, balancing construction with the continuity of regular transport.
