The mayor of Fuente-Tójar, Mari Fe Muñoz, participated in the 2026 Tourism Merit Awards gala, organized by the Provincial Tourism Board of the Diputación de Córdoba and held at the Palacio de la Merced.
The Mancomunidad de la Subbética, an organization that includes Fuente-Tójar, was among the distinguished entities. This recognition celebrates its efforts to consolidate the region as an inland tourist destination through cooperation, joint promotion, and the creation of experiences linked to heritage, nature, culture, and gastronomy.
Muñoz congratulated the Mancomunidad and all stakeholders in the regional tourism sector, stating, "This recognition demonstrates the importance of networking and institutional collaboration in enhancing the external projection of small towns like ours, which possess unique resources and find cooperation a fundamental way to gain visibility and reach new audiences."
The Plan for Sustainable Tourism in the Destination of Subbética, initiated during the previous term when Muñoz served as Vice President, was highlighted. The mayor affirmed that this project has enabled "measures aimed at modernizing and diversifying the region's offerings, improving its competitiveness, and advancing towards a more sustainable, accessible tourism model connected to the identity of each municipality."
Fuente-Tójar aims to continue this strategy with initiatives such as the new Tourist Office currently under construction, which will enhance visitor services and strengthen the municipality's promotion.
The mayor emphasized Fuente-Tójar's tourism and heritage potential, mentioning Ibero-Roman archaeological sites such as the Cerro de las Cabezas and the Roman mill of ‘El Lucerico’, as well as the Municipal Historical Museum.
Other highlighted resources include the Danzantes de San Isidro Labrador (a Site of Cultural Interest), the parish church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, the hermitage of El Calvario, the Mirador de la Canteruela viewpoint, the urban art route, the Sendero de los Barrancos trail, and a landscape of olive groves linked to the DOP ‘Priego de Córdoba’ Protected Designation of Origin.
"We have history, archaeology, heritage, nature, gastronomy, and unique traditions that constitute our best presentation," stated Muñoz, adding that the challenge is to "transform all these values into experiences capable of attracting visitors, generating activity, and creating new opportunities for Fuente-Tójar."
The government team's objective is to make tourism a pillar of the economy, "from a sustainable growth that respects our heritage and benefits local commerce, hospitality, producers, and all our residents."
