The Mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, has announced the proposal to award the Gold Medal of Merit of the City to Paralympic skier Audrey Pascual, in recognition of her outstanding performance at the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Games.
The decision was communicated this Monday during an institutional reception at the Granada City Council, where Pascual signed the City's Book of Honor and was received by the Municipal Corporation in the Plenary Hall. This event highlights the city's pride in the athlete, who, although born in Madrid, has developed a significant part of her career and training in Granada.
“
"The proposal to grant the Gold Medal of Merit to Audrey Pascual responds to the deep pride we feel for an athlete who, although born in Madrid, has been based in our land for years, training and growing here; and who symbolizes the values of effort, dedication, and commitment, being an example of overcoming challenges."
At 21 years old, Audrey Pascual has shown remarkable resilience since her birth with bilateral tibial agenesis. Her physical preparation began at six months, and at eleven, she started skiing, a discipline in which she has achieved international success. Her connection to Granada is strong, as she trains at the Sierra Nevada High Performance Center and studies at the city's Faculty of Audiovisual Communication.
At the recent Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Games, Pascual delivered a historic performance for Spain, winning four medals in para-alpine skiing (seated category LW12-2): Gold in Super-G, Gold in Alpine Combined, Silver in Downhill, and Bronze in Slalom. These achievements solidify her position as one of the country's most prominent athletes.
“
"Audrey's story is proof that talent, when combined with hard work and determination, has no limits. Audrey is today a role model for our youth and for all those who find a path to personal growth through sport."
The medal proposal will be formally submitted to the Granada City Council's Honors and Distinctions Commission for consideration and approval. Once ratified, the recognition will be made official at the annual awards ceremony, which coincides with the feast day of San Cecilio.
