The decision was made at the last meeting of the contracting board on Friday, April 10, concluding a process that saw a "transcription error" in the economic offer of the winning firm. Albaida Infraestructuras' proposal was deemed to offer the "best quality-price ratio for the interests of this University" among the eleven submitted.
This third ETSIIT building, designed by architect Carlos Belmonte Pérez, will feature three floors plus a basement, spanning 7,736.25 square meters. It will include offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, seminars, and work areas. Its initial estimated cost was 12.9 million euros, payable in three annual installments until 2028.
The construction of this facility is crucial to meet the growing demand for space at the center. Currently, the ETSIIT offers degrees in Computer Science (300 places) and Telecommunications (150), as well as double degrees in Computer Science and Business Administration and Computer Science and Mathematics. Starting in September, the academic offerings will expand with a new degree in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, which will begin with 70 students in Granada and also be available at the Melilla campus.
The new building will allow for the removal of existing prefabricated classrooms on campus. During the 23 months of construction, the University will need to reorganize teaching spaces. The bidding process, which began in December, was extended due to an appeal from a company and the Christmas holidays, as well as a tie in initial scores that necessitated a review of documentation.
Albaida Infraestructuras, headquartered in Almería with branches in Granada and Madrid, has completed projects such as the restoration of the roofs of the Jaén Cathedral and the construction of the Social and Welfare Services Center for the Almería City Council. In Granada, the company was responsible for the renovation project of San Antón.
