The decision was made during the ordinary September session, thanks to the casting vote of the mayor, Carmen Álvarez, and despite the negative vote from the socialist municipal group. The local government argues that this study is the prerequisite for implementing a new mobility model that will include more buses, improvements to bus shelters and stops, and salary increases for service workers. The renewal of the fleet, requiring significant investment, is a key factor for the future municipalization of the service.
During the plenary session, motions regarding the situation in Ceuta, presented by the PP and Vox, were also debated. Vox's proposal was rejected, while the PP's was approved with the abstention of the PSOE, a vote that the municipal government considered support for the right in an initiative they believe aims to divide the country.
Unanimously, the Plenary approved a proposal from the socialist municipal group for the development of a new Municipal Housing Plan. Despite the affirmative vote, the local government criticized the socialist initiative, pointing to the lack of action in housing matters during the 18 years the socialists led the City Council, without building municipal housing, offering social rentals, investing available funds, or developing developable land.
Furthermore, by unanimous decision, and proposed by the popular municipal group, the twinning of Sanlúcar with the Argentine town of Puerto Gaboto was approved. This agreement commemorates the departure of Sebastián Caboto's expedition in 1526 and the subsequent founding of Fuerte Sancti Spíritus. The local government will proceed with this twinning when priorities allow, regretting that the PP did not support the events of the Month of Circumnavigation held this month.
The September plenary session also highlighted the incorporation of sign language interpreter Sara de la Rosa, through the Association of Deaf People Guadalquivir (Apesorgu). This service, promoted by the City Council, will facilitate municipal procedures, as well as institutional, social, and cultural events. It complements the weekly information space and the broadcast of municipal plenaries via the public station Costa Noroeste Televisión.
