The delegate for Environment, Carmen Pozo, explained that this project responds to a commitment made with Ecologistas en Acción and the Citizen Platform for the Conservation, Care, and Expansion of Urban and Peri-urban Trees of Sanlúcar.
The inventory, publicly accessible at https://arbolado.sanlucardebarrameda.es/, georeferences and catalogs trees by species, including photographs. This digital tool will be very useful for the City Council's Infrastructure Area and the municipal company Emulisan, and will be updated to include vacant tree pits and stumps.
Carmen Pozo highlighted that this initiative represents a significant step forward in the planning and management of public trees, facilitating public access to information about this municipal heritage. The City Council has also begun work on drafting a Municipal Urban Tree Plan, which will aim to protect and improve trees with citizen participation.
The councilor responsible for the area recalled that tree planting occurs throughout the year in various parts of the city, mentioning projects such as the Parque Mirador de Doñana, which includes 147 new trees, and the new square on Avenida de la Rondeña, with over 40 specimens.
The delegate for Environment emphasized that this initiative, driven by mayor Carmen Álvarez, addresses a demand from various groups and the general population, promoting environmental protection, sustainability, and the improvement of public spaces. "The goal is to continue moving towards a greener Sanlúcar, strengthening the conservation of its natural resources and promoting responsible tree management," she assured.
