Last Tuesday, the 'El Picacho' Sports Complex in Sanlúcar hosted the Solidarity Match. This friendly encounter pitted Rayo Sanluqueño against the Mexican Football Federation Premier League Selection. All proceeds from the event will go to the associations ‘Un mar de alegría’ and ‘Manuel sonríe’.
The main objective of the match was to raise awareness for the stories of Mar and Manuel, two children from Sanlúcar suffering from rare diseases. Mar, 6 years old, has Syngap1, an uncommon genetic disorder causing intellectual disability and general developmental delay. Manuel, on the other hand, has a rare genetic alteration on chromosome 15 that can affect the development of various organs and systems.
“"El Picacho has not only been a football field, but a meeting point for the solidarity of an entire town. Thus demonstrating that football can also serve to help, unite, and bring smiles."
The sports entity, presided over by Antonio Díaz, thanked all attendees and collaborators. The mayor, Carmen Álvarez, who attended the match with the delegate for Social Services, Miguel Ángel Casal, emphasized that 'the result did not matter, because solidarity won, the people won, Sanlúcar won'. The mayor also praised Rayo Sanluqueño for turning the event into 'something much bigger and much more beautiful', and expressed her support for Mar, Manuel, and their families.
