The Coto de La Isleta Environmental Education and Nature Activities Center (CEAAN), located in El Puerto de Santa María, served as the venue for the thirteenth Convivencia of the Diputación de Cádiz's 'Mayores Activos' Program. This annual event, organized by the Department of Social Services, Families, and Equality, resumes after a hiatus between 2020 and 2023 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year's gathering saw approximately 1,600 participants from 32 towns across Cádiz, all enrolled in the provincial program. The day was dedicated to adventure, dancing, culture, and fun, embodying the spirit of the International Day of Older Persons' slogan: ‘We retire from work, not from life’.
A group of 50 users from Chipiona's Senior Citizens' Social Center, accompanied by municipal delegate Isabel María Fernández, engaged in various activities. These included zip-lining, archery, a sustainable homes workshop, traditional and sports multijuegos, a nautical boat trip, Zumba, dancing, and lively conversations amidst the natural surroundings.
The 'Mayores Activos' program, active for nearly two decades, aims to promote healthy lifestyles, enhance the quality of life for seniors, and combat unwanted loneliness. In 2025, over 8,000 individuals participated in more than 1,200 activities within this framework, highlighting its significance in promoting active aging, recognizing seniors' rights, and preventing dependency.
