Eduardo Gómez Query, a painter and printmaker from Chipiona, has won the ninth National Outdoor Quick Painting Prize 'Ciudad de Montilla', the main event of the 9th Painting Week-José Santiago Garnelo y Alda Memorial. The award, presented by the City Council of Montilla in the province of Córdoba, comes with a prize of €3,000.
The competition involved creating free-style paintings at various locations in and around the city. Eduardo Gómez Query, born in Chipiona in 1984, graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Málaga in 2014 and boasts an extensive artistic career, along with significant experience in quick painting contests where he has received numerous awards.
His academic background also includes a title as a Higher Technician in Engraving and Printing Techniques from the School of Art of Cádiz, obtained in 2010. Recent accolades include the first prize in the XXVII Quick Painting Contest «Ciudad de Torrevieja» (2025, €3,000), the third prize in the XIV Quick Painting Contest of Ubrique «Pedro Lobato Hoyos» (2025), and the first prize in the XXVI Quick Painting Contest of the University of Cádiz (2024).
He has also secured first prizes in the XIII Quick Painting Contest «Villa de Lora del Río» (2023), the Outdoor Quick Painting Contest Villa de Los Barrios (2023) with a collage technique artwork, and the Outdoor Quick Painting Prize Cidade de Lugo (2022).
The National Outdoor Quick Painting Prize «Ciudad de Montilla» is not unfamiliar territory for Gómez Query, who previously won the second prize in 2018, awarded by the Cooperativa Agrícola La Unión, and was recognized in the 2017 edition. This latest award further solidifies his connection with the Montilla contest.
The ninth edition of the National Outdoor Quick Painting Prize «Ciudad de Montilla» offered a total prize fund of €12,500 for the adult category, along with diplomas and painting materials for the Junior Prize. The Painting Week, organized by the Montilla City Council, aims to bring plastic arts closer to the public and highlight the city's heritage and artistic tradition.
Concurrently, the Special Watercolor Contest «Ciudad de Montilla», organized by the International Andalusian Watercolor Association, took place. Both modalities allowed artists to participate simultaneously with distinct works. The Plaza de la Rosa also hosted the Montilla Art Market, where participating artists and local creators could showcase and sell their work directly to the public.
