Chipiona joins the European Heritage Days, an initiative by the Consejería de Cultura of the Junta de Andalucía, dedicating a day to one of its most representative symbols: the fishing traps. The event, scheduled for Saturday, October 10th, will begin at 9:00 AM with a visit to the ‘El Camaleón’ Nature and Coastal Interpretation Center, aiming to introduce participants to the heritage linked to these structures.
Raimundo Díaz, secretary of Jarife, will give a talk-conference addressing various aspects of this ancient fishing art. Afterward, a tour of one of the fishing traps will take place, allowing attendees to directly understand its operation and the technique used.
The objective of this proposal is to introduce citizens and visitors to a unique heritage linked to the coast of Chipiona, promoting its historical, cultural, and ethnographic importance, and fostering its conservation for future generations.

The European Heritage Days, themed this year as ‘Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine’, will offer numerous free activities related to historical, archaeological, natural, and ethnographic heritage throughout October and November. The province of Cádiz will feature various proposals, including activities in Benalup-Casas Viejas, Benaocaz, El Bosque, Cádiz capital, Conil de la Frontera, Jerez de la Frontera, Jimena de la Frontera, Puerto Real, Tarifa, and Trebujena, in addition to San Fernando.
