Officers from the Motril Traffic Detachment of the Civil Guard have arrested two individuals for alleged road safety offenses. Both were detected driving their vehicles at excessive speeds on the A-7, significantly exceeding the permitted limits on the road.
The first incident occurred last Wednesday, April 8, when a vehicle was recorded at 197 km/h on a section of the A-7 in Motril where the maximum speed is 100 km/h. The following day, April 9, another driver was intercepted on the same highway traveling at 190 km/h, also in a zone limited to 100 km/h.
After identification, the drivers were informed that their actions constituted a road safety offense for severely exceeding the speed limit on an interurban road. Subsequently, they were transferred to the official premises of the Motril Civil Guard Traffic Detachment for the relevant proceedings.
“"This type of anomalous behavior carried out by drivers who not only disregard current Traffic and Road Safety regulations but also show a total disregard for their own lives and the lives of others, can lead to penalties of up to six months in prison and deprivation of driving license for up to four years."
Authorities have reiterated that excessive speed is one of the main causes of road accidents, leading to serious and irreversible consequences. Driving at such high speeds makes it practically impossible to control the vehicle in the event of imminent danger, drastically increasing the likelihood of collisions or leaving the road.
