This project, part of the Plan Reactiva Barrios (Neighborhood Reactivation Plan), includes the renovation, creation, or improvement of up to 55 children's and recreational play areas throughout the municipality. The initiative aims to boost the enhancement of public infrastructure and spaces to improve residents' quality of life.
The Councilor for Parks and Gardens, Daniel Ortega, presented the opening of the tender process that will affect 26 areas. The renovation of the Los Telares park has already been awarded, and playgrounds in Plaza Margarita Nelken, Cáceres street, Rambla de los Álamos, Alonso de Contreras street, Rafael Alberti street, Plaza de la Coronación, Tablón de la Escuela, Catamarán street, Plaza de Santa Adela, Amura de Babor street, Porvenir Avenue, Roma street, and Parque del Chaquetas will be improved.
Additionally, tenders will be issued for the playgrounds in 14 public schools and other spaces such as Clara Campoamor street, Plaza Mercedarias, Plaza Región Murciana, Plaza La Fabriquilla, Rosa de Luxemburgo street, Sevillanas street, Río Mundo street, Jacaranda street, Camino de las Ventillas, Cuartel de Simancas, Islas Cíes street, and Plaza El Ribazo.
Daniel Ortega highlighted that improving children's play areas was a clear objective of the mayor and that this project, with a budget exceeding 1.1 million euros, focuses particularly on educational centers.
These 26 new areas, added to previous projects, bring the total number of children's and recreational play areas to be created, improved, or replaced in Motril to 55, all in compliance with safety regulations. Soon, the renovation of the playground in Parque de las Provincias will be tendered with an investment of approximately 500,000 euros.
Ortega stated that by the end of the legislative term, over 2.7 million euros will have been invested exclusively in children's play areas, an unprecedented figure that will result in more accessible, functional, and modern play zones within the city. These municipal actions are complemented by initiatives from other institutions like the Diputación de Granada, which renovated 10 playgrounds last year.
The councilor attributed these improvements to "good management of economic resources," which has allowed for "fully sound accounts with municipal surpluses enabling these types of actions aimed at improving the quality of life for all Motril residents and our youth." He called for civic responsibility in maintaining the new infrastructure, lamenting the recent vandalism at the Los Telares playground.
