With an investment of 150,000 euros, the new Ecopark, located next to the Municipal Cemetery in the northern part of the city, will operate 365 days a year, from morning to afternoon (10:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 19:00). This project is part of the new municipal Cleaning Plan and primarily aims to enhance security, recycling, and the circular economy.
The improvements include a comprehensive renovation of the premises, with the replacement of the exterior fencing, the installation of a video surveillance system, and the landscaping of exterior planters. Inside, communication stairs have been installed between the platforms, and the public service kiosk has been modernized, improving both the aesthetics and functionality of the space.
In addition to the fixed Ecopark, the Motril City Council has implemented a mobile Ecopark, which operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is reinforced on Saturdays during high season in beach areas. This service facilitates the collection of small domestic waste, such as batteries, light bulbs, used oils, small electrical appliances, and paints, which require special treatment. For larger waste items, such as furniture, mattresses, or rubble, citizens should use the Municipal Ecopark.
“"Having a cleaner city is everyone's responsibility, not just the administrations but also the citizens and visitors who use its streets."
The initiative seeks to educate citizens on recycling and provide all necessary tools for proper waste management. To combat vandalism and ensure security around the Ecopark, the city council will install a surveillance camera circuit, allowing any uncivil acts to be reported directly to the authorities.
