The Motril City Council has launched a special security and transport operation for the Patron Saint Festivities in honor of Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza, taking place from Friday, August 7, to the 15th. The aim is to ensure the safety and enjoyment of residents and visitors.
The Deputy Mayor for Citizen Security, José Peña, detailed the deployment of the Local Police, which will be reinforced by Civil Protection and Firefighters. The presence of these personnel will be increased at both the daytime and nighttime fairs, as well as during the Floral Offering, the Procession, and the Fireworks Display.
During the Daytime Fair, held on August 8, 9, and 10 at the Municipal Market, Plaza del Tranvía, and Plaza Gaspar Esteva, Emilio More street will be closed to traffic from 12:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
For the night fair, access to the fairgrounds will be through a designated route, with vehicle exit towards the APROSMO roundabout. Up to 5 parking areas will be available, with expanded spaces for people with reduced mobility, motorcycles, and taxis. A new motorcycle parking area will be established next to the main entrance.
As a new transport feature, a shuttle bus service with three vehicles will be implemented. Two will depart from the bus stop at the Tourist Office on Avda. de la Constitución, while a third will operate a circular route through various city neighborhoods. These buses will run until 6:00 AM on August 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, and 15, and until 4:00 AM on August 10, 11, and 12.
José Peña highlighted that this new circular bus will connect the city center and the northern part of the city with the fairgrounds, facilitating mobility and comfort for attendees.
The Punto Violeta (Violet Point), dedicated to information and support for victims of gender-based violence and sexual assault, will be located next to the entrance of the municipal pavilion on August 8, 9, 10, and 14, from 9:30 PM to 1:00 AM.
For safety reasons, the fireworks display will take place on the Camino del Empedrado. Avda. Costa Tropical will be closed to traffic from approximately 10:30 PM, and parking will be prohibited on this avenue from 8:00 AM.
The public is advised to park in peripheral areas and access the fireworks site on foot. Peña also requested citizen cooperation to prevent public drinking ('botellón') during the day and night fairs, with increased police surveillance to enforce current regulations.
