The measure was taken due to the possibility of a river surge resulting from precipitation in the municipality and the Alpujarra region. Mayor Antonio Mancilla explained that the decision is based on caution, especially after observing the flow of the Trevélez river the previous day.
The council issued a social media statement asking users to refrain from entering the los Paúles pool. Local Police have cordoned off access points to ensure safety.
“"We have decided as a precaution to close it at least until noon. However, it is all precautionary and nothing may happen."
This preventive action follows an incident last Friday when about thirty swimmers were evacuated from the Trevélez pool due to a potential flash flood, which also prompted the local council to issue a similar statement.
