The opposition in Almuñécar has voiced concerns over the prolonged delay in the final approval of the General Urban Planning Plan (PGOU), which has been pending for years and affects the construction of 1,500 affordable homes.
Socialists from Almuñécar and La Herradura have urged political leaders to provide clear explanations for the delay in approving the PGOU. They highlighted that despite the Popular Party governing both the local council and the Junta de Andalucía since 2019, no progress has been made on this crucial municipal issue.
“
"They have had all administrations aligned, all offices open, and all spotlights on. What they have lacked is real capacity or political will to unblock a fundamental issue for the future of our municipality."
The opposition recalled that during the 2023 election campaign, the new PGOU was presented as a key tool for building 1,500 affordable homes. They now question whether this promise still stands or has been forgotten, given the lack of progress on the urban plan.
The PGOU is considered an essential tool that defines municipal growth, allocates land for public housing, organizes sports, welfare, and cultural facilities, and provides legal certainty for families, professionals, and businesses. The absence of an updated plan forces Almuñécar to operate under an outdated and fragmented urban model.
“
"While the President of the Junta comes to Almuñécar to boast about management, he forgets about the PGOU and that our municipality has been operating for years under an old, patched-up, and exhausted urban model. And that has very concrete consequences: young people who cannot become independent, seasonal workers who cannot find housing in summer, and neighborhoods that are still waiting for decent facilities."
Finally, criticism has been leveled at the use of Almuñécar as a "campaign stage" instead of prioritizing governance needs. A public timeline, reports, and accountability have been demanded to prevent the municipality's future from progressing at an excessively slow pace.
