Motril's fairground with newly paved streets and accessibility improvements for the Patron Saint's Festival.

The Motril City Council has completed preparations at the Fairground for the start of the 2026 Patron Saint's Festival, with enhancements in accessibility, parking, and services.

The Motril City Council has reinforced services at the Fairground by paving new streets, increasing parking spaces, implementing a special security service, and an intensified cleaning operation, ahead of the start of the 2026 Patron Saint's Festival. The mayor, Luisa García Chamorro, accompanied by the deputy mayor for Urban Quality, Juan Fernando Hernández, and the councilor for Youth, Festivals, and Events, Gerardo Romano, has overseen the final preparations.
García Chamorro highlighted accessibility improvements, such as paving new streets to facilitate transit, especially for people with reduced mobility. Reserved parking spaces have also been relocated and expanded, and a dedicated area for motorcycles has been established. The mayor reiterated the idea of moving the fairground to a location closer to the city, although bureaucratic and administrative issues have prevented its realization, assuring that investments continue in the current venue.
Regarding parking, approximately 600 more spaces will be added in adjacent lots. Public transport is being promoted with a new circular bus service and a shuttle service comprising three vehicles, departing from the Tourist Office and making routes through various city neighborhoods. On August 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, and 15, the service will operate until 6:00 AM, and on August 10, 11, and 12 until 4:00 AM.
Councilor Gerardo Romano stated that everything is ready for the city's grand days, with activities and performances for all audiences. Meanwhile, Juan Fernando Hernández detailed the cleaning efforts, including clearing brush and deep cleaning the municipal pavilion, which will continue throughout the week. 8 new workers have been hired specifically for the fair, working both day and night shifts, performing manual and mechanical sweeping tasks.
Approximately 4,000 recycled cardboard fans with the slogan ‘Mucho Motril’ will be distributed. The mayor expressed gratitude for the efforts of municipal workers and stallholders, wishing everyone an enjoyable time filled with joy, fun, and tradition.
