The Motril Basketball Club has officially presented its sports project for the 2026/27 season. The campaign, marking the club's third consecutive year in Tercera FEB, is filled with enthusiasm and new developments, aiming to solidify its position as the city's basketball benchmark.
The presentation event was attended by Daniel Ortega, Deputy Mayor and Sports Councilor of the Motril City Council, along with representatives from the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa Tropical and the Port Authority, as well as club board members, technical staff, and players.
One of the main novelties is the appointment of Alberto Fernández “Zamo” as head coach. The coach approaches this new phase with enthusiasm, aiming to build a competitive and committed team, bringing his extensive experience and seeking to continue the entity's sporting growth.
Jesús Bustos, the club's president, highlighted the new coach's professional trajectory and human qualities, as well as the effort made to assemble a squad described as “complete, competitive, committed, and very hardworking.” He also thanked the work done by the previous technical staff, led by Eugenio Ollera.
The project continues to emphasize youth development, with approximately 200 boys and girls practicing basketball. The club aims for young players to see the first team as a role model and a future aspiration.
Daniel Ortega praised the club's grassroots work, stressing the importance for Motril's children to see the Tercera FEB team as an example to follow. He reaffirmed the Motril City Council's commitment to the club, assuring support through its annual subsidy and efforts to improve sports facilities.
José García Fuentes, president of the Port Authority, noted the club's achievement in maintaining its national category for a third consecutive year and its focus on women's basketball and youth training. The Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa Tropical reiterated its commitment to regional sports, valuing its role in promoting healthy habits, transmitting values to youth, and projecting the Costa Tropical's name nationally.
CB Costa Motril faces the new season with a renewed squad and technical staff, ambitious to continue advancing in national categories. The club has launched its season ticket campaign with affordable prices, aiming to fill the pavilion and ensure fan support.
