This initiative is part of a series of institutional meetings the entity is holding with various administrations, including future contacts with the Castell de Ferro City Council and the ELA of Calahonda. The main objective is to foster dialogue and participation among fishermen to avoid conflict situations, such as those experienced in Almuñécar.
During the meeting, attended by municipal representatives, the measures proposed by the association for the regulation of Punta de la Mona were presented. These proposals are also considered applicable to the Calahonda-Castell SAC, which partially covers the municipality of Motril through the Local Entity of Calahonda.
The association's suggestions have already been sent to the Ministry of Environment, the Granada Environmental Delegation, and Aula del Mar, and are currently being analyzed by various bodies. Proposed measures include the use of biodegradable hooks and lines, fishing systems that minimize gear loss, the use of alternative ecological weights (even replaced by stone), as well as the implementation of minimum sizes and closed seasons.
“"The social importance of this activity is undeniable, with approximately 2,300 recreational fishermen in Motril and over 25,000 in the province, reaching 231,000 across Andalusia."
The association has positively assessed the meeting, highlighting the dialoguing attitude of the municipal representatives and their willingness to advance towards a pioneering model in the Costa Tropical. They reaffirm their commitment to collaborate with administrations to achieve fair, balanced, and sustainable regulation of self-consumption fishing throughout the area, and to actively participate in future working groups in other coastal areas.
