The town of Almuñécar has celebrated another edition of its traditional May Crosses, an event that brought together nineteen participants. The jury, after a difficult deliberation, awarded the highest recognitions to Cruz Alhambra, located on Baja del Mar street, which took first prize. Second place went to La Cueva, situated on Eras del Castillo street, while El Huerto, in Marruecos square, secured the third award.
In addition to the main prizes, honorable mentions were given to other outstanding creations. The first honorable mention went to La Piedad, installed in the Taberna Antigua, and the second honorable mention was awarded to Virgen del Carmen, displayed in El Majuelo park. In the children's category, Cruz Las Eras was the winner, acknowledging the efforts of the youngest participants in keeping this deeply rooted tradition alive.
“"The effort, affection, and dedication they have put into each of the crosses, once again nurturing a tradition so deeply rooted in our municipality. Thanks to this work, we can enjoy authentic works of art in our streets."
The organizers highlighted the elaborate craftsmanship of all participating crosses, emphasizing their careful decoration, abundance of details, and remarkable integration into their surroundings. These elements made the jury's task particularly challenging, as they evaluated aspects such as originality, ambiance, gastronomy, and the collective effort behind each setup. The inaugural day was marked by an excellent atmosphere and a large public turnout, promising a weekend full of community and tradition in Almuñécar.
