The Environment and Health departments of the Torremolinos City Council, working with the Local Police, have concluded an investigation that has pinpointed the perpetrators of an illegal waste disposal. This incident was first detected on January 17 in a plot adjacent to the Cuenca de la Higuera stream.
Environmental agents confirmed the presence of a large volume of bulky household waste in the area. Among the abandoned materials were furniture such as wardrobes, tables, and sofas, as well as household goods, clothing, textiles, and debris from house moves. The council indicated that the arrangement of the waste suggested it had been directly discharged from large-capacity vehicles, such as vans or trucks.
Days after the initial discovery, a new dump was found in the same location, significantly increasing the volume of accumulated waste in this protected natural space. The investigation, which involved the green patrol of the Local Police, led to the identification of a company specializing in the removal of belongings and scrap metal, operating from a residence in the neighboring municipality of Benalmádena.
“"Our city and its natural environment are a heritage that we must protect. We will not allow the irresponsibility of a few to put it at risk."
The case file has been forwarded to the Sanctioning Authority, which will initiate the corresponding procedure for a serious infraction. The uncontrolled dumping of household waste on municipal public land violates Law 7/2022, of April 8, on waste and contaminated soils for a circular economy, and the penalty could reach up to 10,000 euros.
After the events came to light, the mayor of Torremolinos, Margarita del Cid, publicly denounced the dumping via her social media channels and announced the start of inquiries to clarify what had happened. The mayor has expressed her satisfaction with the investigation's outcome and congratulated the involved agents for their work.
