The finishing works for this facility, adjacent to the current sports center, resumed last May after being awarded to the company Servimar 2008 for a ten-month execution period. The project, initiated seven years ago, has faced numerous issues and delays.
During the visit, the mayor was accompanied by the Councilor for Infrastructure, Juan José Torres, and the Councilor for Sports, María Francisca Alarcón. They supervised the progress, which currently focuses on installing the electrical system, plumbing, and internal partitions, as well as conducting facade tests.
The project includes the completion of a multi-purpose building (sports and administrative), the construction of an adjacent therapeutic pool, access routes, changing rooms, and a central distribution plaza. The main entrance will be located on Camino del Albero.
The basement level will house a car park with 23 spaces and three accessible spots. The ground floor will feature main access lobbies, changing rooms, and administrative offices, with a direct connection from the football field to the changing rooms. The therapeutic pool will have a special design with natural light.
The external urbanization will comply with accessibility regulations. The Las Lagunas Sports City, currently named after Olympic snowboard medalist Regino Hernández, was built in 1991 and also includes a football field, a multi-purpose sports building with a gym, a heated pool, stands, and outdoor courts.
The local government has also initiated a project to renovate the pool's roof to prevent water leaks and debris.
