The Coastal Sciences Chair at the University of Málaga (UMA) has concluded that the quality of Torremolinos beaches is "excellent". This analysis, ongoing until September 15th, is based on water and sediment samples from the Torremolinos coast, as announced by the City Council.
The local government highlighted that this annual study aims to assess the sanitary quality of the beaches, categorizing them as excellent, sufficient, or insufficient. Samples were collected from various points along Carihuela, Bajondillo, Playamar, and Los Álamos beaches, both in the bathing area and in the sediments where users place their towels.
The analyses are conducted at the UMA's Faculty of Sciences, adhering to the Royal Decree on bathing water quality management and the European Parliament Directive on bathing water quality. Measurements of E.coli and intestinal enterococci counts were taken, resulting in an "excellent" quality rating for all beaches.
This monitoring is performed every 15 days throughout the summer season, ensuring water quality control during the months of highest beach attendance.
Furthermore, the City Council recalled that in 2026, all four of Torremolinos' beaches successfully revalidated their Blue Flag distinctions, awarded by the Association of Environmental Education and Consumer Affairs (ADEAC) for their sustainability and environmental quality. The municipality also holds the Q for Quality and S for Sustainability certifications for its beaches.
