The Popular Party of Málaga has projected an image of unity and strength in Mijas, one of the province's most challenging mayoralties. The election of Ana Mata as president of the Mijas PP aims to solidify her internal leadership in a town marked by over a decade of political divisions and instability that has affected the municipality.
Patricia Navarro, provincial president of the party, presented in Mijas the "constructive, propositional, and hopeful campaign" for the upcoming regional elections on May 17. Navarro emphasized the PP's desire to focus on proposals to "continue improving Andalusia and Málaga," supporting Mata alongside Elías Bendodo, national deputy secretary for Autonomous, Local Coordination, and Electoral Analysis.
“"Mata has shifted into sixth gear in the municipality, and residents have already realized that there is management here and, above all, results."
Ana Mata herself has linked her election to a new political and organizational phase in Mijas, expressing her wish for the local PP to once again be "a strong, cohesive party fully convinced of its ability to transform Mijas." The mayor stressed that "Mijas cannot wait any longer, its time has come, the time to take off," attributing political instability to the municipality's hindered development in recent years.
The congress also ended an anomalous situation that had affected the Mijas PP since Mata took office as mayor in November 2023. Until now, the mayor governed the City Council while the party maintained a de facto bicephaly after Ángel Nozal's departure and the subsequent creation of a provincial management committee. With this unanimous vote, Mata assumes institutional and organizational control, healing an internal wound within the party.
The mayor received broad support at the conclave, not only from Elías Bendodo and Patricia Navarro but also from the president of the Málaga Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, and other mayors and party leaders. Organizationally, Mata has formed her new team, appointing Daniel Gómez Teruel as the new general secretary of the PP of Mijas and Mario Bravo as vice president of the executive board.
The congress included a round table titled 'Management with a Woman's Soul,' featuring mayors such as Margarita del Cid (Torremolinos), Mari Paz Fernández (Ronda), Natacha Rivas (Algarrobo), and Ana Mula (Fuengirola). This initiative aimed to highlight female leadership within the party and project an image of close management and municipal solvency onto Mata.
