Over 2,200 minors from Mijas are enjoying municipal educational and sports summer camps this year. These initiatives take place in various facilities across the municipality's three main areas, aiming to promote children's activity and assist working parents with family reconciliation.
The mayor, Ana Mata, visited the Tamixa school in Las Lagunas, where 170 minors are engaged in sports, crafts, and water games, all under the supervision of specialized monitors catering to the children's needs.
Mata, accompanied by the Councilor for Social Inclusion, Mari Francis Alarcón, and the Councilor for Education, Juan José Torres, highlighted the importance of these municipal services. "They allow us to maintain an option for leisure and education throughout July and August that satisfies parents and appeals to the children," she stated.
Sports camps organized by clubs in municipal facilities host 600 minors. Combined with the 1,600 enrolled in the municipal summer schools, the total number of participants reaches 2,200 children.
The Tamixa school also hosts the summer school for the Corresponsables Plan, an initiative supported by the Regional Government of Andalusia and the Ministry of Equality. It is aimed at children aged 3 to 14 from lower-income families registered in Mijas.
This program includes a facilitator, three sociocultural animation monitors, and special education monitors, promoting integration and equality in camp enjoyment. The school also serves single-parent and large families, aiming to support work-life balance.
