The municipality of Mijas is joining the commemoration of International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day on June 28 with a program of activities designed to foster tolerance, equal rights, and the dignity of individuals within these communities. The initiatives will span three days.
The mayor, Ana Mata, accompanied by representatives from the Andalucía Diversidad Federation and Orgullo Mijas, presented the schedule. Mata emphasized the significance of the date, which originates from historical struggles for rights and recognition, and reaffirmed the council's commitment to a more inclusive and respectful society.
Activities will commence on June 24 and 25 with the creation of a participatory mural open to the public in the courtyard of the Teatro Manuel España. This space, operational from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, aims to encourage the expression and visibility of diversity.
On June 25, also in the theater's courtyard, the 'Breaking Labels' information stand will be set up. Attendees can write messages of support, reflection, or advocacy, which will later be displayed on a collective panel.
The central institutional event will take place on June 26, featuring the reading of the LGTBIQ+ manifesto at the Teatro Manuel España. The event will include participation from Antonio Ferre, president of the Andalucía Diversidad Federation, and will serve to reaffirm the commitment to equality and the defense of the community.
“"I invite all citizens to participate, enjoy each activity, and join this message of respect and coexistence. May these days serve to make visible, celebrate, and continue advancing towards a future where no one has to hide who they are or whom they love."
