The Councilor for Sports, Mari Francis Alarcón, announced that the project will also include the installation of a renewable energy system with solar panels to supply the building's demand. The project, already completed by the City Council, will be put out to tender by the Mancomunidad de Municipios.
The interventions on the different roofs of the sports center (pavilion, corridor, services, and gym) will vary according to their use. The pavilion's roof will be improved for waterproofing and rainwater drainage, with a new roof featuring increased slope and renovated downpipes. The corridor's roof will have its slope increased and waterproofing reinforced. The service and gym roofs will see increased slopes and the installation of photovoltaic panels.
The recently approved Joint Investment Plan 2026 allocates a total of 7,046,659.83 euros to the eleven municipalities in the entity. Mijas is the second municipality with the highest economic allocation, after Marbella.
This plan aims to develop investment projects in sectors such as the urban water cycle, solid waste management, beaches, urban environment, tourism, and the acquisition of efficient vehicles or machinery. The fund distribution combines a fixed amount per municipality with a variable distribution based on participation coefficients.
