Residents of Fuengirola will receive a letter at their homes, sent by the City Council with the support of Eovidrio, to remind them of the importance of recycling glass and promote proper waste management. The initiative also highlights the European goal of recycling 60% of municipal waste by 2030.
The Councilor for Cleaning, Carmen Díaz, emphasized the positive response from citizens, evidenced by an 11% increase in glass collection after the last awareness campaign. "We must continue to move forward, and I want to thank citizens for their involvement in recycling," she stated, encouraging those who do not yet participate to join this collective responsibility.
“"Firstly, because we have to comply with the regulations; furthermore, recycling glass does not incur any cost for the citizen and contributes to a cleaner and more sustainable Fuengirola."
The councilor recalled that glass is a 100% recyclable material indefinitely, and its recycling contributes to saving raw materials, energy, and protecting natural resources and biodiversity. Fuengirola has been committed to recycling for years, a line of work that must be reinforced to prevent landfill saturation and minimize environmental impact.
To facilitate glass disposal, the City Council provides containers and ecological islands. In narrow streets where installation is difficult, 'miniglús' have been placed. Díaz encouraged residents to inform the City Council of the need for these small bins in their streets for potential installation.
