The Fuengirola City Council has announced fourteen new Local Police positions to bolster citizen security in the municipality.

Mayor Ana Mula, alongside the Councilor for Citizen Security, announced this measure aimed at enhancing the service provided by the police force to the city. The call for applications includes fourteen new officers, eight of which are newly created positions. Twelve will be filled through open competitive examinations, and two through mobility without promotion, via a merits-based competition.
These positions will be reserved for professional military personnel from the Troop and Navy branches who can demonstrate a minimum of five years of service. This initiative complements the twelve officers currently completing their training at the Andalusian School of Local Police and undertaking practical training within the force.
Fuengirola's Local Police currently has a staff of 146 officers, resulting in a ratio of one police officer for every 581 residents, exceeding the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) recommendation of 667. With the upcoming incorporations, this ratio will further improve, surpassing the recommendations set by the European Union.
This increase in personnel follows the addition of seventeen agents to the Fire Extinction and Prevention Corps over the last five years, which now comprises 35 agents, making it the best-equipped fire department in its 40-year history.

"Therefore, we continue to fulfill and take steps in our security commitments. To consolidate ourselves as an increasingly safe and orderly place. So that the residents and visitors of Fuengirola know that they are safe here and that, should anything happen, we have the appropriate resources to act quickly and effectively."
