The municipality of Estepona is undertaking a significant project to modernize public lighting in six of its main parks. This initiative, with an investment of 186,823 euros, aims to improve the energy efficiency of these facilities and generate an estimated annual saving of 27,000 euros for the municipal coffers.
The project involves replacing 350 high-pressure sodium vapor luminaires with new, latest-generation LED equipment. The parks benefiting from this upgrade are La Constitución, Huerta Nueva, de Los Derechos Humanos, de Los Niños, del Seghers, and Carmen Thyssen. In the latter, over a hundred ornamental lighting points have also been installed to enhance its appeal.
This renovation addresses facilities that, in some cases, were over 30 years old. With this modernization, the installed power will be significantly reduced from 35 kilowatts to 12.25, representing a 65% decrease in the energy consumption of these public spaces.
Blas Ruzafa, deputy mayor for Services and External Control, highlighted that the action aligns with the municipal commitment to improving public spaces and optimizing resource management. 'We are renewing facilities that in some cases had become obsolete after decades of service,' he stated, adding, 'we achieve better lighting quality, increased safety and user comfort, while significantly reducing energy consumption and maintenance costs.'
It is estimated that the new LED technology will lead to annual savings of approximately 27,000 euros, making this investment a project with a direct return and long-term economic and environmental benefits. An annual energy saving of 95,550 kilowatt-hours is projected, equivalent to the electricity consumption of about 27 homes.
In addition to energy savings, the longer lifespan of LED technology and more efficient management will reduce operating and maintenance costs. The system will allow lighting levels to be adjusted to actual usage needs and will minimize blue light emission, promoting residents' rest.
