The initiative, which had the collaboration of the Mijas City Council, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of environmental care and its balance. The Councilor for the Environment, Marco Cortés, participated in the activity and thanked the commitment of Creamar Mijas, highlighting its role as the largest and most participatory group in these projects.
The event also had the collaboration of the companies Diving with Nic and the Royal Beach Pirata beach bar. An interpretive snorkeling dive over the Posidonia meadows was planned, but sea conditions ultimately prevented it from taking place.
The Marine Protection Network (RPM) is an environmental volunteering platform of the Aula del Mar Mediterráneo Foundation in Málaga. It organizes local action groups, known as Creamar, to protect the coastline from pollution, climate impact, and strandings. In the province of Málaga, the network operates through three groups: Creamar Málaga, Creamar Mijas (with the City Council's cooperation), and Creamar Rincón de la Victoria.
Any adult resident in areas near the beaches can join these groups after a selection process. Volunteers receive training, equipment, and insurance to carry out guardianship, cleaning, and environmental incident reporting tasks. The initiative collaborates with local entities and official surveillance services on pollution episodes, species sightings, nesting, and environmental education, among other activities.
