This Monday, Cuesta del Bailío, an emblematic spot located between the Biblioteca Viva de Al Ándalus and the rear of the Dolores sanctuary, has regained one of its most characteristic elements. The Córdoba City Council proceeded with the planting of a substantial cypress tree, occupying the space left by another specimen removed in the middle of last month.
The decision to remove the original cypress was made due to the “quite significant risk” of it falling, as reported by the Council approximately a month ago. Adverse weather conditions, including strong winds and heavy rains during the winter, affected this tree, which had stood there for about fifty years, similar to many other trees in the city.
“"When the roots lift, it is not possible to put them back in."
The municipal action was based on a report from the Parks and Gardens department, attached to the Infrastructure Delegation, which recommended felling the cypress. Although the possibility of planting “a singular tree” was initially considered, another cypress was ultimately chosen, thus maintaining the traditional physiognomy of Cuesta del Bailío during the peak tourist season.
