The Gran Teatro de Córdoba is preparing to host one of the most successful musical productions worldwide: The Phantom of the Opera. This show, which has captivated over 300,000 spectators in Madrid and toured 30 cities nationally, will offer performances in the Cordoban capital between May 15 and 24.
This version, directed by Federico Bellone and with musical direction by Julio Awad, winner of the Talía Award 2024, has the approval of Lloyd Webber himself, a privilege exclusive to a few productions. The adaptation of the lyrics is by Silvia Montesinos, and the costume design by Chiara Donato has been recognized with the Broadway World Spain Audience Award.
“"Musical actors are the athletes of actors."
The production stands out for its impressive technical deployment, which includes a revolving stage, a state-of-the-art sound system for a homogeneous auditory experience, lighting effects that intensify dramatic tension, and classic-style set design and costumes. Each day will feature two performances, supported by a live orchestra of 14 musicians.
Based on Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel, The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of an enigmatic figure living beneath the Paris Opera, obsessed with the young soprano Christine Daaé. Since its premiere in the West End in 1986 and its arrival on Broadway in 1988, the musical has been seen by over 160 million spectators in 195 cities and 21 languages, becoming the most successful in history.
