The electoral board of the Brotherhood of the Lord of Charity of Córdoba has officially announced that, after the deadline for submitting candidacies for senior brother passed, no applications were received. Consequently, the general election council, scheduled for June 14, has been declared void.
In light of this situation, the current governing board, headed by Carlos Pérez, will continue to serve temporarily. The aim is to ensure the continuity of basic activities and daily worship for the brotherhood.
The brotherhood has informed the chaplain, Joaquín Alberto Nieva, and the competent ecclesiastical authority of this circumstance. They now await directives from the diocesan delegation of Brotherhoods, as stipulated by the brotherhood's own statutes and the Diocesan Framework Statute of the Diocese of Córdoba.
The deadline for submitting candidacies concluded last Thursday, May 21. Carlos Pérez is completing his second term, adding to the anticipation of how the situation will be resolved.
According to Article 27 of the Charity's statutes, in the event of no candidates or if none are elected, the current governing board will continue provisionally until new elections are held, which must take place within a maximum period of 60 days to elect the new senior brother.
