In the two previous regional election campaigns, the Popular Party candidate for re-election used to visit the El Cruce livestock farm, located in Añora, in the Los Pedroches region. There, he would be photographed with a dairy cow, which he nicknamed his 'talisman' due to the good luck it brought him in the elections.
During his first visit in the 2018 campaign, the candidate approached the animal and, in a moment captured by cameras, whispered to it: “Are you going to vote for the PP, or not? Say yes, man.” This video went viral on social media, and after those elections, the candidate became president of the Junta de Andalucía, the first from the Popular Party after almost four decades of socialist rule.
In the subsequent regional election campaign in June 2022, the candidate repeated his visit to the Cordoban livestock farm. He reunited with the cow, which weighed 700 kilograms, stood almost 1.80 meters tall, and produced 70 liters of milk daily. He posed with her again for the cameras, joking about the luck she brought him and his desire to take her to the Junta headquarters. Shortly after, he was re-elected president, this time with an absolute majority.
“"My friend is back. This is a talisman cow for me. Let's see if she brings us the same luck as four years ago, and I'll take her to San Telmo."
However, the cow that the candidate himself considered his charm will not be present in this third election campaign. The farm managers, two of the four brother owners, have confirmed that the animal passed away almost two years ago, at just over ten years old. For now, there are no plans for a new visit by the candidate to the farm.
