The facilities of the Club Náutico de Sevilla were the venue for the Andalusian Open Water Championship on May 1st. The event gathered 386 athletes from across the country, who competed in various distances such as 5k, 3k, and 4x1250 relays in infantil, junior, absolute, and master categories.
Among the participants, international swimmer Helena Castillo, from CD Natación Córdoba, was crowned junior 1 champion (born 2009-10) and secured a commendable third place in the absolute classification. She was only surpassed by Peruvian Olympian María Alejandra Bramont and Irene Peinado. Castillo demonstrated her skill by winning a tight finish against her national team colleague, Aurora Martínez.
Other Cordoban swimmers also reached the podium, including Macarena López (Navial), infantil champion; Raúl Camino (CD Natación Córdoba), silver in junior 2; and Rafael Rojas (Navial), infantil bronze. In the relay modality, Club Deportivo Natación Córdoba achieved a fourth place, while Navial finished in sixth position.
In the master category, Pedro Serrano, from Natación Córdoba, was proclaimed overall champion and champion of his category (+40), beating Hywel Davies and Miguel Ángel Rozas. For its part, CD Indea achieved a third place in the overall team classification, thanks to its remarkable performance in both individual and relay events.
The list of master medalists includes Alberto Ríos (CN Montilla, champion +25), David Cuesta (CD Natación Córdoba, bronze +25), Carlos Querol (CD Natación Córdoba, silver +60), Elia Cuenca (CD Natación Córdoba, silver +30), María Moreno (CD Indea, champion +25), and Lucía Baena (CD Indea, silver +25). In relays, Indea was crowned champion in the +100 category, and Natación Córdoba took the third step of the podium in the +160 category.
