Córdoba Railway Restrictions: Over 30 Sections Limit Speed

The province of Córdoba has more than 125 kilometers of railway lines with reduced speeds due to over 30 temporary speed limitations.

The province of Córdoba faces over 30 temporary speed limitations (LTV) across its railway network, impacting more than 125 kilometers and reducing train speeds.

The railway network in the province of Córdoba is subject to around thirty temporary speed limitations (LTV), collectively affecting over 125 kilometers. These restrictions impact both High-Speed and conventional lines, influencing the transport of passengers and freight throughout the province.
The State Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif) has introduced a real-time viewer to monitor these limitations across the entire national network. While the situation in Córdoba is less severe than in other Andalusian provinces like Seville or Málaga, it features sections with speed reductions that have become persistent.
Among the notable restrictions is one on the 528 line (Almorchón-Mirabueno), affecting over 30 kilometers with a speed limit of 30 km/h. This line, connecting Córdoba with Extremadura, has been inactive in the Córdoba section since the early 1990s and has been considered for conversion into a greenway.
High-Speed lines in the Sierra region, between Conquista and Adamuz, also have several LTVs over short distances, with speeds ranging from 80 to 160 km/h. Additionally, speed limits of 50 km/h are in place near the capital, at the Alcolea junction and the entrance to Estación Córdoba Julio Anguita.
On the conventional Alcázar de San Juan-Cádiz line, several restrictions are in place, including one at 20 km/h leaving Estación Julio Anguita and others between the now-closed stations of Posadas and Hornachuelos. Five of these limitations are concentrated on the route towards Jaén, a corridor currently closed to passenger traffic until the end of 2027.
Works to adapt the network for the Algeciras-Zaragoza Rail Highway are also causing restrictions, particularly on the 430 line (Córdoba-Málaga). These projects, focusing on viaduct repair in Córdoba and improvements to embankments and hydraulic infrastructure, necessitate speeds between 10 and 30 km/h in certain sections.
The province of Córdoba also suffers from the lack of service on conventional lines that historically connected the capital to the north and south, such as the routes to Almorchón and the former 'oil train'. Demands to increase high-speed train stops in Villanueva de Córdoba also persist.
