Educational centers in the province of Córdoba have added a total of 1,454 new air conditioning units thanks to the Thermal Comfort Plan promoted by the Junta de Andalucía. This initiative aims to adapt actions to the real needs of each center, ensuring personalized, sustainable, and quickly applicable solutions.
According to Diego Copé, delegate for Educational Development and Vocational Training of the Junta de Andalucía in Córdoba, most interventions have focused on installing ventilation and air conditioning (732 units). The remainder are distributed among insulation improvements with windows and enclosures (117), radiators (340), exterior shading structures such as awnings or porches (123), and the planting of trees to create green areas and natural shade (142).
Diego Copé visited the IES Inca Garcilaso in Montilla, one of the beneficiary centers. The total investment in the province of Córdoba for this plan exceeds 5.2 million euros, from the Junta de Andalucía's own funds, benefiting 369 public educational centers. In Montilla, the allocation for public centers in this area exceeds 160,000 euros.
This measure complements the Consejería's Bioclimatization Plan, which implements adiabatic cooling systems and photovoltaic solar panels. The second phase of this plan benefits 19 Cordoban centers with a budget of nearly eight million euros, bringing the total investment in this plan to 41 million. Combined with the Thermal Comfort Improvement plan, the budgetary allocation for air conditioning rises to over 46.2 million in the province.
Copé highlighted the Junta's investment effort to modernize educational infrastructure and adapt it to the climatic reality, ensuring that students can learn in the best conditions and that classrooms are safe, healthy, and comfortable spaces.
The main novelty of the Thermal Comfort Plan is its execution model, through direct transfer of funds to the operating expenses account of each beneficiary center, thus reinforcing their economic management autonomy and stimulating the local economy.
Each public educational center in the province of Córdoba has received a specific amount based on its size, potentially reaching up to 60,000 euros, with an execution deadline of September 30, 2026. Beneficiary centers include nursery and primary schools, special education centers, music and dance conservatories, adult education centers (CEPER), secondary and vocational training centers, school residences, and first-cycle infant schools.
