The Provincial Council of Córdoba has announced an investment of 223,564 euros for the installation of renewable energy generation systems, specifically photovoltaic energy, in the ten fire stations of the Provincial Consortium for Prevention and Extinction of Fires. The main objective is to reduce the energy dependence and electricity consumption of these facilities.
According to Salvador Fuentes, the institution's highest representative, the placement of photovoltaic panels on the roofs of the buildings will allow for an anticipated 30% reduction in the electricity bill, thus promoting savings. This project, with a budget exceeding 200,000 euros, aligns with the Council's policy of promoting energy transition, decreasing electricity consumption, and reducing CO2 emissions.
The hangars and buildings of the fire stations will be transformed into "clean energy plants." The installations have been calculated based on the annual consumption of each station, and no surplus energy storage or grid feed-in is planned for unused energy.
Regarding the timeline, the photovoltaic installations for the fire stations in the Northern Zone (Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo, Hinojosa del Duque, and Pozoblanco) are already underway. It is expected that the installations for the remaining lots will be completed and operational before the end of summer.
Fuentes recalled that the Provincial Council is a pioneer in this field and offers aid through the Energy Agency for municipalities, local entities, and SMEs to finance projects for efficient public lighting and air conditioning.
In total, the installations will amount to 143.25 kWp, generating approximately 207,712 kWh of clean electricity annually and preventing the emission of nearly 53.6 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to planting 2,680 trees. Around 231 monocrystalline silicon cell panels will be installed.
The project is divided into three lots. Lot 1 (Western Zone: Palma del Río, La Carlota, Puente Genil, and Lucena) has been awarded to Elecnor. Lot 2 (Southern Zone: Baena, Priego de Córdoba, and Montilla) to Quantum Energía Verde SL. Lot 3 (Northern Zone: Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo, Hinojosa del Duque, and Pozoblanco) to Electroferr Jaraba SL. The Montoro station is not included as it already has a photovoltaic installation.
