The course, organized by the Deputy General Secretariat for Human Resources of the CSIC in collaboration with IAS-CSIC, brought together 20 attendees from various CSIC centers across Spain. The main objective was to deepen the understanding of different functional groups of soil microorganisms, such as fungi, bacteria, protozoa, nematodes, arthropods, and earthworms, as well as their interactions and their fundamental role in sustaining natural fertility, plant health, and ecosystem resilience.
During the theoretical sessions, participants received introductory training on the importance of the soil food web at the micro level for restoring agroecosystem functions. In the practical sessions, they learned techniques for extracting soil microbiology and formulating organic amendments for application to seeds, on the ground, and via foliar spray, among other aspects.
“"The training was led by Isadora Schmidt, an agricultural consultant and mentor for the Soil Food Web School in Spain."
The event, held at the IAS-CSIC facilities, concluded with the sharing of photographs documenting the training.
