The Bailén City Council held a technical meeting with the Junta de Andalucía to present tourism projects aimed at valuing the municipality's historical, cultural, and natural heritage.

The mayor of Bailén, Luis Mariano Camacho, along with the Councilor for Tourism, Juan Jesús Padilla, and the Councilor for Urban Planning, María Torres, met with the territorial delegate for Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía in Jaén, Mario Martos. The primary objective was to outline Bailén's tourism needs and detail municipal plans to develop and enhance the town's heritage, cultural, and tourism resources.
During the meeting, the importance of tourism for Bailén was highlighted, emphasizing its numerous resources and events that position it as a benchmark in the province of Jaén. Among the attractions mentioned were the Historical Reenactment of the Battle of Bailén, scheduled from October 2nd to 4th, and the Museum of the Battle of Bailén, which recounts this key episode of the War of Independence and the town's historical evolution.
Bailén's tourism offering is complemented by its deep-rooted ceramic tradition, pottery-related experiences, and olive oil tourism, creating a proposal that merges history, culture, traditions, and the local productive sector.
Councilor for Tourism, Juan Jesús Padilla, stressed that Bailén possesses sufficient resources, heritage, events, and projects for its growth as a tourist destination. "We need the different administrations to be aware of this potential and accompany us in its development," he stated, adding that the focus extends beyond the Battle to include the Museum, ceramics, olive oil tourism, and archaeological heritage.
Municipal officials have requested continued support and investment from the Junta de Andalucía, particularly for projects that generate new tourism resources or strengthen existing ones. The aim is for the regional administration to recognize Bailén's tourism potential and collaborate in consolidating its heritage and fostering economic activity.
One of the presented projects involves the restoration of the Casa de los Corchado, for which the City Council has applied for a specific grant. The proposal includes renovating the building and transforming it into a new cultural and tourist hub, featuring an olive oil mill intended to become an Interpretation Center for Olive Oil Culture and rooms for a museum space dedicated to local ceramics. "The Casa de los Corchados can become one of Bailén's major cultural and tourism projects," noted Padilla.
Another key topic of discussion was the archaeological site of Las Piedras del Cardado, which shows evidence of occupation since the Copper Age, with Iberian and Roman remains documented in 2026. The City Council plans to continue with the excavation, research, and enhancement of the site to establish it as a new cultural and archaeological tourism resource, integrating it into Iberian heritage itineraries.
The municipal strategy, as explained by Mayor Camacho and Councilor Padilla, focuses on diversifying Bailén's tourism offerings by combining established resources with those currently under research, recovery, or development. "We need to continue working to connect all these resources and ensure that visitors have increasingly more experiences to discover in Bailén," concluded Padilla.
This meeting is part of the City Council's institutional collaboration efforts to seek support for Bailén's tourism projects, aiming to promote its heritage and create tourism products that generate economic activity in the municipality.
