The Seville City Council, through the Urban Planning Department, will carry out asphalt resurfacing work on numerous streets in the Santa María de Ordaz neighborhood, in the Macarena District. These roads, which had not seen any intervention for decades, include Santa María de Ordás, Amalia Torrijos, Virgen de la Guía, Orfebre Seco Velasco, Santa María de los Reyes, and Santa María de la Hiedra.
The work will take place between September 22 and October 2, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and will involve the complete closure of the affected streets. Work will commence on Santa María de Ordás street on Tuesday the 22nd, continuing until the 29th. On Amalia Torrijos, it will begin on Wednesday the 23rd, with completion scheduled for September 30th. Streets Virgen de la Guía and Orfebre Seco Velasco will undergo work between September 24th and October 1st. Finally, on Santa María de los Reyes and Santa María de la Hiedra, the work will be carried out between September 28th and October 2nd. Alternative traffic plans will be provided for residents.
These actions are part of the Asphalt Improvement Plan for Seville, which aims to restore road safety by resurfacing roads that have been awaiting improvement for years. With this intervention, these streets will join the nearly 180 kilometers of roads repaved in the city over the last three years.
The delegate for Urban Planning, Juan de la Rosa, highlighted that "we continue to advance in the resurfacing of streets in all districts of the city, and specifically in Santa María de Ordás, with works highly demanded by the residents of this neighborhood who have been requesting the renewal of these roads for years. With this action, we continue to make Seville a safer, more accessible, and more walkable city, for both drivers and pedestrians."
These works are in addition to other recent improvements in the Macarena District, exceeding 700,000 euros. These include the comprehensive redevelopment of Artesanos Peluqueros street (461,000 euros), the completion of works on streets such as Doctor Antonio Herrera Carmona and Abogado Rafael Medina (141,000 euros), and the repair of parking areas on Constantina street (14,500 euros). Furthermore, more than twenty new parking spaces are being created on Avenida de Llanes (45,000 euros).
In the coming weeks, as part of the summer improvement works with an investment of 2.2 million euros, six additional resurfacing operations will be carried out on streets such as Santa María del Rocío and Santa María Magdalena, with a total cost of 257,000 euros.
These interventions are added to other works already completed in the Macarena District, such as the resurfacing of Avenida de Pino Montano (over 140,000 euros) and the redevelopment of roads like Doctor Antonio Herrera Carmona and Plaza Blanca Paloma. The total investment in works in this district over the past year amounts to approximately one million euros.
