The facility, which had been in a state of significant disrepair for years, has been completely refurbished. Works included milling and conditioning the pavement, repairing potholes, sealing cracks, installing a new non-slip sports surface, painting and marking the court according to regulations, and fitting new goalposts and protective nets.
This intervention complements over a dozen improvement projects undertaken in the Cerro-Amate district in recent months, underscoring the municipal commitment to restoring emblematic spaces and enhancing residents' quality of life.
The district delegate, José Lugo, highlighted that the court's renovation provides young people with a safe, high-quality space for sports and social interaction, promoting healthy lifestyle habits.
Since 2023, Plaza Poeta Miguel Hernández has benefited from various investments, including the creation of an inclusive children's park, the installation of perimeter fencing for enhanced security, the renewal of artificial turf in the children's area, and improvements to street furniture, responding to community and student requests.
The district continues to foster the cultural and social dynamism of the area with initiatives such as the upcoming Pepe Suero Popular Music Festival in September and the traditional Velá de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores.
Other recent improvements in the Cerro-Amate district include pavement upgrades in Olivar de la Reina and Huerto del Maestre, enhancements to the enclosure and equipment at Parque Fábrica de Contadores, and urban redevelopment projects on streets like Águila Perdicera and Águila de Oro.
Furthermore, the street Mandarina in Santa Aurelia has undergone comprehensive redevelopment, creating new parking spaces and improving urban infrastructure. The replacement of water supply and sanitation networks in San José de Palmete and the renovation of pavements and lighting on Satsuma and Guayaquil streets are also part of these efforts.
