The Governing Board of the Provincial Institution has approved the tender for the construction works of this roundabout, which has a base budget of 475,472.19 euros and an execution period of four months. The project, included within the Provincial Road Network Plan 2025-26, aims to reorganize the current T-intersection and channel accesses and left turns towards the urban center and the municipality's public facilities.
The project includes traffic reorganization with segregated pedestrian and cycle paths, new lighting, and a drainage system to prevent rain damage. The circular roundabout will have an outer ring of 63 meters in diameter and a landscaped inner ring. The annular roadway will be 7.50 meters wide, distributed over two traffic lanes.
The intervention will integrate non-motorized mobility through an accessible perimeter sidewalk of 4.00 meters wide and a segregated cycle lane of 2.00 meters wide. The old underpass will be demolished and a new transversal drainage system will be installed.
In terms of services, a public lighting network will be installed with four 11-meter-high columns and 120 W LED luminaires connected to an astronomical clock for ignition control. The central island will feature low water requirement plantations and an automated drip irrigation system.
“"We are not just talking about building a new roundabout, but about improving one of the main entrances to our urban center, facilitating circulation and also enhancing the safety of pedestrians and cyclists."
The Deputy of Public Works, Antonio J. Rodríguez, highlighted that the work also includes accessibility and sustainable mobility actions, ensuring the safe circulation of vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists on a road that provides access to services such as the City Hall, the Health Center, the Local Police, and local businesses.
