PACMA proposes efficient metropolitan transport for Almería and rejects commuter train

The Animalist Party With the Environment (PACMA) has put forward a proposal to enhance metropolitan public transport in the province of Almería, advocating for a more efficient and sustainable model that reinforces the bus network and rejects the construction of a commuter train.

The political party has warned about the environmental impact that the construction of a commuter train line in the Poniente Almeriense would entail, specifically in the Sierra de Gádor. According to PACMA, this infrastructure would severely affect the Special Area of Conservation (ZEC) Sierra de Gádor y Enix, an area of great ecological value that has historically suffered intense deforestation and numerous fires without effective reforestation policies.

"A commuter train to Poniente would devastate part of the ZEC Sierra de Gádor y Enix, an area of enormous ecological value. The Sierra de Gádor has historically been one of the most affected in the province, with intense deforestation and numerous fires, without effective reforestation policies being applied. Therefore, we consider this project to be completely discardable."

As an alternative, the Animalist Party proposes a significant reinforcement of the road transport network. This would include an increase in bus lines and frequencies, with the aim of creating an interconnected network between the municipalities of Poniente, Bajo Andarax, and the city of Almería. Among the proposed measures is the implementation of 15-minute frequencies on the lines with the highest demand.
The party considers the development of commuter train services in the Bajo Andarax region viable, as this area already has existing stations in or near urban centers, such as Huércal-Viator, Benahadux-Pechina, Gádor, or Santa Fe de Mondújar-Alhama. This infrastructure would effectively connect the region and offer a competitive public transport alternative.

"It is incomprehensible that two regions concentrating more than half a million inhabitants lack an efficient public transport system, while current bus lines maintain insufficient frequencies that greatly reduce their utility."

With this proposal, PACMA seeks to balance the need for citizen mobility with the strict preservation of local ecosystems, especially the Sierra de Gádor.
