This joint initiative aims to strengthen agricultural and tourist activities, the main productive pillars of Níjar, the largest municipality in the province. The Provincial Council will contribute 1 million euros, and the City Council the remainder for the rehabilitation of strategic road and rural infrastructures.
The president of the Provincial Council of Almería, José Antonio García Alcaina, and the mayor of Níjar, José Francisco Garrido, discussed the project that will structure the agricultural sector and facilitate mobility for residents and visitors.
García Alcaina highlighted that the agreement represents "a historic commitment to the countryside and Níjar's mobility" to renew paths, strengthen the local agricultural engine, improve neighborhood connectivity, and enhance the tourist appeal.
For his part, Mayor Garrido thanked the Provincial Council for its support, emphasizing the municipality's predominantly agricultural and tourist nature and how the project will help repair roads, making work more comfortable for farmers, and address the historic Huebro road.
The agreement is divided into two actions. The first involves paving 8 rural paths (Paraje Las Lanchas, Paraje Panadero, Paraje Grillos, Paraje Don Domingo, Paraje Las Capitanas, Paraje Bellavista, Paraje Bellavista 2, and Paraje Ródenas) with an investment exceeding 730,000 euros. Works will include clearing, trenching, and new pavement.
The paving of the Huebro path, with an investment close to 500,000 euros, will fully rehabilitate 5 km of road. The foundation will be reinforced, the platform widened, rock demolished in low-visibility areas, rainwater runoff managed, and new horizontal and vertical signage installed.
The main objective is to facilitate heavy traffic to agricultural holdings and, in the case of Huebro, ensure road safety on its sole access route, overcoming a mountain slope with steep gradients.
