The Provincial Council of Almería and the Macael City Council have signed a collaboration agreement for the rehabilitation, improvement, and beautification of four strategic streets in the town's historic center: Nicolás Salmerón, Estación, La Reina, and Juan Jiménez. The investment for the renovation of these streets amounts to 500,000 euros, which will be entirely covered by the provincial institution.
This action aims to modernize this area of the Macael historic center, where the pavement is severely deteriorated due to wear and tear over time, and the water networks present various issues. The intervention will resolve these problems and optimize water usage by installing new and efficient sanitation and supply networks.
The President of the Provincial Council, José Antonio García Alcaina, and the Mayor of Macael, Raúl Martínez, discussed the details of this remodeling project, which adds to the ongoing collaboration between the two institutions that has enabled transformative actions in Macael, such as the families' park and the renovation of Plaza Almería.
José Antonio García Alcaina highlighted that the works will put an end to water losses in the old town by replacing obsolete facilities with new, efficient sanitation and supply networks, emphasizing a commitment to sustainability and efficient management. He also noted that it will revitalize the historic center and improve the comfort, safety, and accessibility of these streets.
The president recalled that these actions support one of the provincial institution's main objectives: to “equalize opportunities among the people of Almería, wherever they live,” adding that the Diputación is and always will be alongside the 103 municipalities to address their needs and improve services that guarantee the well-being and quality of life for all towns.
For his part, the Mayor of Macael, Raúl Martínez, thanked the Diputación for its collaboration and support on projects of this nature, which would be very difficult for a municipality like Macael to carry out on its own, enabling them to provide services and improvements to the residents of these streets.
The planned interventions include the renovation and undergrounding of water supply, sanitation, rainwater, and public lighting networks in Calle Nicolás Salmerón, with new non-slip concrete pavement. On Calle Estación, services will be undergrounded, and non-slip concrete pavement will be applied to a specific section.
Calle La Reina will see the renovation of the water supply network and partially the sanitation network, with a new 7-centimeter thick non-slip asphalt surface after milling the road. On Calle Juan Jiménez, the roadway will be renewed with a 7-centimeter non-slip asphalt surface, and sidewalks will be modified, unified, and widened in several sections, requiring the relocation of some public lighting poles.
