The University of Almería (UAL) and the Provincial Council of Almería have strengthened their strategic alliance for the cultural, economic, and social development of the province. This morning, the rector of the UAL, José J. Céspedes, and the president of the Provincial Council, José Antonio García Alcaina, renewed the agreement that these two institutions have maintained since 2007, aiming to realize various academic, social, artistic, and cultural projects across different locations in Almería.
Through this agreement, the Provincial Council of Almería will contribute 151,000 euros to be used for initiatives driven by the UAL. These initiatives cover areas of study closely linked to the territory, such as agriculture and history, as well as others like artificial intelligence, psychology, and the promotion of entrepreneurship, talent, and employment.
Among the highlighted projects are programs with significant social impact and deep roots in the province, such as the Summer Courses, now in their XXVII edition, and the University for Seniors, which brings the academic world closer to individuals over 55 years old, among many other initiatives.
UAL Rector José J. Céspedes emphasized that the collaboration with the provincial institution aligns with the UAL's strategic objectives, particularly in strengthening its connection with the entire province. "We are the university for the entire province of Almería, not just the capital," he stated.
Céspedes also highlighted the UAL's role as a driver of economic and social transformation for over three decades, through higher education, research, knowledge transfer, and cultural promotion. "The Almería of today would likely not be understood without its university," he indicated, adding that "contributing to the progress of our towns and cities is among our priorities."
For his part, the president of the Provincial Council, José Antonio García Alcaina, explained that this investment aims to ensure the UAL remains a national and international benchmark. "The fluid collaboration between the Provincial Council and the university is a strategic alliance for the future of Almería and its people," he declared, also mentioning other projects like the Sabores Almería Chair.
García Alcaina stressed that the agreement solidifies the union between both institutions in defending talent and transferring knowledge to society. "When institutions work as a team, the entire province advances. We are committed to our University, but above all, to the training and retention of talent," he concluded.
Since this collaboration began in 2007, the Provincial Council has invested 2.5 million euros in UAL projects. The president recalled the institution's commitment to the University to "equalize opportunities among the people of Almería," highlighting the UAL as "the first and firm step of the engine for wealth and job creation that drives our land."
The programs to be carried out under this framework agreement include: the University for Seniors, Summer Courses, The European Researchers' Night, Natural History Pavilion, UAL-Connect (Ideas Fair, Employment Fair, Classroom Fair), Entrepreneurship Promotion, the IndalMat Competition, Cybersecurity Conference, Residence Scholarships, University Micro-credentials, the program «Lights in the Desert», Conference on Social Sciences Methodology, Artificial Intelligence Conference, and the Young Talent in the Province program.
