The institutional meeting between the president of the Provincial Council of Almería, José Antonio García Alcaina, and the mayor of El Ejido, Julia Ibáñez, served to analyze and strengthen the relationship between both administrations. The objective is to promote significant investments and projects for the municipality.
The meeting, held at the El Ejido City Hall, also included the vice-president of the Council and councilor, Ángel Escobar; the deputy for Presidency and Provincial Promotion, Carlos Sánchez, and several councilors from the El Ejido City Council: Francisco Rivera, María José Martín, Manuel Martínez, and David Fernández.
Both leaders described the collaboration as “excellent and fluid”. García Alcaina congratulated Ibáñez on her appointment and expressed his confidence that she will enhance El Ejido's role as an agricultural leader and engine for employment. The provincial president reaffirmed the Council's commitment to El Ejido's future, highlighting its role as an ally in transformative projects that improve the quality of life in the region.
For her part, Mayor Julia Ibáñez thanked the president for his visit and the constant collaboration, which allows progress on actions of interest to the municipality. She highlighted the Council's support for projects such as the Ejido Norte Sports Pavilion and the Almerimar Sports Complex, the improvement of rural roads, and the promotion of cultural initiatives like the El Ejido Theater Festival.
The ongoing sports projects were discussed, including the future Almerimar Sports Complex and the El Ejido Norte Sports Pavilion, which address historical demands. The joint investment for these infrastructures exceeds 14 million euros. Works at Almerimar are progressing well, while the El Ejido Norte pavilion is completed and awaiting inauguration.
The meeting also assessed the Council's support for the agricultural sector, through the modernization of roads, hygiene campaigns, promotion of local products under the 'Sabores Almería' brand, and support for farmers' demands regarding production costs, water access, and unfair competition. The rehabilitation of the road from Matagorda to Almerimar, with an investment of over half a million euros, was one of the latest actions.
Collaboration also extends to culture, with support for the El Ejido Theater Festival, the Symphony Orchestra, and the Gastronomic Route. There is also cooperation with local associations, such as the project for the future headquarters of the Down El Ejido Association.
